Contravene (bedeutet soviel wie „verstoßen“ oder „zuwiderhandeln“) fanden sich im Herbst 1999 zusammen, um fortan absolut genialen politischen Anarchopunk mit Metaleinflüssen zu spielen. Ihre hammergeilen Songs, welche sich durch einprägsame Melodien, nachdenklich-ruhige Stellen und die richtige Prise Aggression auszeichnen, versahen sie mit Texten über u.a. Ausbeutung, Tierrechte, Umweltzerstörung und andere Probleme.

Schon im Dezember 1999 veröffentlichten sie das Demo „Forever in struggle“ und bereits im Juli 2000 folgten diesem eine selbstbetitelte 7′‘. Im November selben Jahres erschien eine Split-Veröffentlichung mit Schwedens Svart Aggression. Erst 2 Jahre später, im Jahre 2002, erschienen dann die beiden Alben „A call to action“, welches mit sieben Songgranaten zu begeistern weiß und das selbst betitelte“Contravene“, welches mit satten 11 Songs die Ohren verwöhnt. Im darauffolgenden Jahr erblickte erneut eine 7′‘ das Licht der Welt, welche „Prison sells“ betitelt ist. 2004 erschien dann erneut eine Split-Scheibe. Diesmal mit Uprising. Leider war dies dann auch die letzte Veröffentlichung meiner Lieblingsanarchopunkband Contravene.
